View From The Top

Ten years ago, I sat in my home office and began to consider starting a new business in 1997. We were still overcoming my being unemployed for most of 1995, due to an accident I had that year, building our "dream home". It was the last house I built and the house that we still live in today.

Even though I had rebuilt my income, we still had a huge debt burden to overcome. It seemed impossible to start another business and risk so much, so soon after the accident. But my spiritual education had taught me to "walk by faith and not by sight". Prayerfully, I decided to move ahead with the ideas that I had been considering. I didn't really want to do it though. I knew that it would be difficult and that it would take time to develop an income that we could live on.

Everything in my soul told me, "No". But my spirit told me yes. So in February of 1997, I left my real estate company and began to work on setting the company up and getting it started. For three months I did the research and development to start, what we now refer to as "The DHS Club". On June 1st, 1997 we had a cook out and I invited a few people over to become our first VIPs. Two of these people are still active today with the business - Executive Director Mark South and my son Will, who works here at HQ.

After one year, my DHS Club income was just $500 a month and it looked like I may have to go back to work to support my family. But I have learned that it can be the darkest before the dawning and soon the business started to grow exponentially. The workload increased and we began to hire staff and see our first VIP leaders emerge.

Now, ten years later, we have stood the tests of time and difficulties, and we are still in business. That in and of itself, should be a testament to what we have worked hard to accomplish in our industry. But we dare not revel in the past or glorify having built just a foundation and part of structure. The very nature of free enterprise, means that we can expect competition and that we need to constantly seek to improve our business and our opportunities and offerings.

Yes, we have been able to stop and smell the roses along the way, but our journey continues. Not only does 2007 mark our ten year anniversary (and we have some special things planned to celebrate it this year), but it also marks my projected completion of all of our major marketing initiatives. Since 1997, I had planned that we would do so within ten years. Now it looks like it will take ten years and a few more months.

Regardless, we are now poised to complete the last major pieces of our puzzle, which will culminate in our launching our offline ClubRewards Card Marketing initiative in such a way, that we expect to see our biggest explosion ever in memberships, VIPs, Merchants, Affinity Groups, Executive Directors, Ambassador Club Members and sales volume!

The moment that I have been waiting for, for the past ten years, is due to arrive this year. We have made great strides forward over the past few years. This year we will be making our first quantum leap! Are you ready, able and willing to work harder than you ever have and grab this ring as it goes by?

This is a team business, but you won't be rewarded just by being on the team. You have to get off the bench and into the game!

Dreams are coming true for VIPs around the world. Get in the game to make your dreams come true. Let's make 2007 be your most prosperous new year yet!

Great days lie ahead!
